Re: Audition

Well I didn't get chosen but....I've just got back from my holiday yesterday.

If I was to tell you that....I have sung a duet live on stage with Marie Osmond in front of a sell out audience at The Flamingo Hotel, Las Vegas...would you believe me? emoticon

Re: Audition

Unfortunately the theatre wouldn't allow cameras or recording equipment so I don't have any evidence of it other than a promotional photo signed by Marie. I cannot work out how to get that photo onto here so the only way to see it at the moment is on my facebook page.

A Few Photos

She signed it with....'Thanks for singing with me, kisses'
Oh and if you see the other photos and wonder why I have lipstick on my head...well that was Marie too. emoticon

Re: Audition

Well I will give a small review of one of the best nights of my life at the Donny and Marie show in Las Vegas.
Partway through the show where Marie does a solo spot,Marie asked if there was anyone from the UK at the show.
Evelyn and I were in the front row because I had bought meet and greet tickets so as Evelyn could finally meet her idol. I called out that I was from the UK and another guy named Jack somewhere further back did the same. She then asked us both where we were from so I told her I was from Essex and Jack told her that he was from Yorkshire. After a bit of banter with Jack and myself she asked me to go up onto the stage...saying that I looked cute.(sigh)I told her,she looked cute too.
The first thing she asked was for me to put my fingers on my head to make it look like I had a pair of horns so she could do some Diablo dance or something. I told her I was useless at dancing and after a quick wiggle she realised that I wasn't lying. emoticon Marie then asked if I was only here because my wife wanted to see Donny. I said...'Is Donny here too' which got quite a laugh from Marie and the audience. Marie liked it because they try and out do each other throughout the show and she scored that as a point to her. emoticon She then said she was looking for a man so I told her I was spoken for. I just turned down Marie Osmond!!! emoticon Earlier in the show Marie drank a bottle of water down in one with the response 'Who said Mormons can't drink?
She wanted me to sing but I replied that I was far to thirsty to sing which prompted her to take me to the back of the stage where the pianist was and opened a bottle of water for me. She then asked me to down mine in one which I couldn't manage and then laughed, calling me a lightweight. I responded with 'but I'm not a Mormon'. She then asked me to put my arms around her and I had to copy her lines, singing Patsy Cline's 'Crazy'.While we were singing and cuddling Marie shouted out at Jack, 'Hey Jack, this could have been you'. emoticon
After the song was over I sat down and a few minutes later Donny came back on stage. He then said,' I was watching the monitors backstage now where's Martyn? The spotlight went onto me and Donny said, 'Yes Martyn, I am here still' which got everyone laughing. We had a little bit of banter where he started mimicking my accent in true Dick van Dyke cockney. He followed this with a great dance routine and yes he is a great dancer. At the end of the routine he was exhausted and then he looked at me and said,'Well Martyn, can you do that? A bit later during the show he mentioned that he loves Stevie Wonder and turned to me and asked me to name a favourite Stevie Wonder track. Now, this isn't my kind of music and the first song that came into my head was 'I Just Called To Say I love You emoticon He laughed and then proceeded to bend down and serenade me with that song. emoticon A little later Marie asked me to stand up and then she bent and kissed the top of my head leaving a bright red pair of lipsticked lips on my freshly shaved head.
At the meet and greet, Evelyn finally met Donny and the pair of them had a laugh together. Donny asked her, 'what's your name?' to which she replied, 'Evelyn, why, what's yours?' to which Donny responded with 'Ralph'. Marie then signed her photo with the words, 'thanks for singing with me, kisses, Marie Osmond. She then took the photo and pressed the photo to my head, getting a print of the lips onto the photograph. After the show people shook my hand, some even asking if I was a plant. Jack came over and congratulated me as well which was nice. I was stopped by people in the casino and the next day while Evelyn and I were visiting Fremont Street somebody called out 'Martyn, Martyn. We turned around and two women came over and started chatting to us about the show. I told Evelyn that getting mobbed by fans was becoming very wearing to which she gave me quite a punch to the arm emoticon
All in all it would have been a great show because as much as I knock Donny and have done for years, they put on a thoroughly great show, but, being part of that show was the icing on the cake for me and it made Evelyn's birthday all the much better.
A day I will never forget. emoticon

PS...I wont mention the stint I did later in the week with Big Elvis where I got to play a blow up guitar. emoticon
